Secondhand Mom: Day 3

I am exhausted and lazy, so you just get the daily toll tonight. I promise I’ll post a real update tomorrow — one that won’t be all about NaNoWriMo!

Current Word Count: 9,072
Words to Go: 40,928
Cups of Coffee: 1
Hours Spent Writing Today: About four hours. I should have kept better track!
Number of Breaks Taken: At Barnes and Noble, I did not take any breaks (unless you count changing the CD in my laptop — yes, I’m old school — or stretching). Once my battery died, I went to Walmart and Staples, ate when I got home, and then jumped right back in. (When I left B&N, my word count was around 8k.)
Number of Characters Killed: I just realized that I am indeed going to have to kill a character. :(
Number of Times Writers’ Block Occurred: Once; I had a hard time getting into it. I blame being tired!
Number of Times I Almost Gave Up: No freaking way, man!
Number of Chapters: 3
Favorite Character of the Day: press195 — don’t ask. You would have to read it.

How is everyone else doing?

Secondhand Mom: Day 2

I should have done this last night but I was exhausted.

I did all of my writing yesterday at the Barnes and Noble Starbucks cafe in my city. (Can you say grande White Chocolate Mocha and spinach and feta stuffed pretzel? Mmn!)

By the time my battery died, I had gone just a little over my goal for the day. I checked my NaNoWriMo page and my buddy list to see how they were doing. I have never been ahead of any of my buddies, but last night I realized I was. In no way am I bragging, but damn was I excited! In years past I used to compete with my buddies to get my word count higher. Now I’m going to have to do twice the work to stay ahead. I love the competition aspect, and I think it’s really going to help this year, too.

Another thing that has been helping is staying in touch with other NaNoers. Jess and I have been using BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) constantly to bounce ideas off of each other. Having her literally seconds away is such a comfort. I’m also very surprised at how busy my NaNoWriMo 2009 Facebook group is! I really thought it’d just be me and the three or so people I initially invited, but now it has 21 members!

And of course I’ve been crawling the NaNoWriMo forums. I’ve been spending a lot of time in my region’s forum, but I’ve been in a few of the other threads as well. I really like the 30 Covers, 30 Days project (and hope mine gets picked)! (I also have to say that this year the site is running great! Team NaNoWriMo is doing a great job of keeping the servers up!)

Anyway, here is yesterday’s daily toll:

Current Word Count: 6,131
Words to Go: 43,869
Cups of Coffee: 1
Hours Spent Writing Today: 2 1/2 or 3
Number of Breaks Taken: Just long enough to use the bathroom. I also stopped typing a couple of times to think and stretch, but got back at it right away.
Number of Characters Killed: None, although I’m sure my main character wanted to kill her loser boyfriend when she had to tell him she was pregnant and he was too messed up on prescription medication to be much help.
Number of Times Writers’ Block Occurred: None, unless you count the time I couldn’t remember what a Chevrolet Tracker is called. :D
Number of Times I Almost Gave Up: None, and I doubt the thought will ever cross my mind this month. I am thoroughly enjoying this.
Number of Chapters: 2. I’m almost done with the second. Today I plan to write the rest of chapter two and all of chapter three.
Favorite Character of the Day: Gigi (main character) and Jay (possible love interest). These two are funny.

How are you doing?
