Secondhand Mom: Day 10

I’m halfway there, and we’re only ten days into this! I’m not even going to try not to brag; this feeling is incredible! I have to say, though, that having “word count wars” with Jess is one of the biggest reasons my word count is so high. She and I regularly BBM each other throughout the day asking for each other’s word count. We then scramble to catch up to each other. It’s working really well, and I think after November she and I are going to have to be permanent writing buddies.

Current Word Count: 26,288
Words to Go: 23,712
Cups of Coffee: Oh, man, I miss you, coffee. I will have some tomorrow!
Hours Spent Writing Today: Um. Uh. Altogether? Maybe four. I really need to start keeping track again!
Number of Breaks Taken: One to write errands. I was at about 23k then. I took a shower, went to the bank, got some McDonald’s, went to the doctor (I don’t have swine flu, yay!), and then stopped at the grocery store for some Gatorade and other sicky necessities. When I got home, I started writing again pretty much right away, then took a break for dinner. I think I wrote for a little while after that, then quit to do some website updates for some clients.
Number of Characters Killed: 0
Number of Times Writers’ Block Occurred: 0
Number of Times I Almost Gave Up: 0
Number of Chapters: I just finished Chapter 11, so I’ll be starting Chapter 12 tomorrow.
Number of Pages: 89
Favorite Character of the Day: Jay (main character’s boss and wannabe love interest). He’s part Mike (who is HOT in that picture, with those steamy blue eyes), part Mike Lobel, and part fantasy. (Just picture this guy with green eyes, a cap that says The Beanery, and a beard. Mmn…) He’s trying to run his uncle’s coffee shop while recording an album on the side, and he really, REALLY wants to date Gigi (my main character). She won’t let him come close, though, so it’s been tough for him (and me, because he’s so awesome)! Sidenote: I named him Jay after my Dad, not the Degrassi character that Mike Lobel happens to play. Just so ya know.

An update on Konner

Konner, taken by Sandy 10/21/2009 My godson Konner went for his regular checkup at Yale hospital this morning, and his doctor said that what was his good kidney is now starting to fail as well. He has to go for a VCUG in January, and sometime in the spring will be getting his bad kidney removed.

His doctor told Sandy that he will either have to go on dialysis or get a transplant. He’s been put on a donor list, and both his parents have been tested to see if they are a match. They aren’t. Sandy can’t test Kaylene because it’s not entirely her decision to do so (Kaylene and Konner have different fathers), and Ryan can’t test Kayden (his daughter) for the same reasons. After the VCUG, I’m going to get swabbed to see if I’m a match, and Sandy is asking everyone else she knows to consider it as well.

Dr. W (Konner’s doctor) said that the kidney removal is a high risk surgery. Konner will turn two on the 27th of November. So far, he has proven to be our little fighter and I have to keep faith that he will come out of this just fine, too. Dr. W said that usually once a bad kidney is removed, the other kidney will start to recover. Hopefully it does and we find a match very soon. I don’t want my little man to suffer any more than he already has. Sandy said that he has no idea what’s going on and that he is in no pain, which is great.

Please keep your fingers crossed.
