Off My Mind: Money, 9/11, Hematomas, Fall Fashion, and Biopsies

My mind has been a blur lately, racing with a bunch of random things, so it’s been hard to sit down and write any semblance of sense here. Comic Vine has a featured article — I think it’s weekly, but don’t quote me on that — called “Off My Mind,” and I thought that would be a fitting type of post as there are tons of things I’d like to get off my mind. Rah, rah, rah-ah-ah, roma, roma-ma

For the last — wait, let me think — four? days, I have had that song by Lady Gaga stuck in my head. You know the one. I shouldn’t have to name it or sing it for you. Oh, you want it stuck in your head, too?

There, now we are both suffering.

Except, here is the problem: After days of it being stuck in my head, days of me complaining vehemently, it’s just there now. (Actually, I even just watched the video above without twitching or wanting to hurl myself out of a window.)

This is how I work. What do I mean? Let’s look at an example.

When I first heard Coheed and Cambria’s “A Favor House Atlantic,” I hated it. Then it got stuck in my head. Then I was forced to listen to a whole bunch of their music. And then, suddenly, I fell in love.

I was forced to listen to lots of Gaga the other day, while Mike shopped at — eew1 — Hot Topic for tee shirts. Then that “Bad Romance” song got permanently branded into the very cells of my brain.

As Mike and I breezed through a Target in another town last night — it was amazing, I tell you, AMAZING!2 — I told him I was doomed.

“I’m going to end up liking her,” I said.

“Well, you did say — and I mean, you’re probably going to deny it now — but you did say, a few months ago, that you respected her. Because she writes all of her own lyrics and music and stuff.” He may have sounded a little smug.

“I did. I did research and read about how she worked her way up, how she writes all of her own lyrics, all of that. And I still do respect her. She actually earned where she is, as opposed to some of these other so-called singers.”

We turned off of the racetrack and into an aisle. “There ya go,” he said.

“Stop! It’s like you want me to like her.”

And, as I sit here typing this, that song is getting even less annoying.

1A story for another day.

2I looooove Target.

I am the Baroness

I’m a little addicted to Target.

Last night, I only intended to buy a backpack for school, some notebooks and pencils, and some Zyrtec so my face could stop feeling like it was going to fall off.

I came out with a storage bin, two-drawer plastic filing cabinet, three notebooks, a pack of pencils, a pack of big erasers (I can’t stand puny little pencil erasers; they never last long enough), hanging file folders, a box of 100 file folders, a Mighty Mug, and the backpack that started the whole trip. I spent over $100, but it was all stuff I really needed (my small, crowded house is in bad need of some organization)! At least, that’s how I justified the home, office, and school stuff.

The Mighty Mug that Mike found in the toy aisle?

Who does this remind you of?

Who does this remind you of?

I'll shoot you if you mess with my tissues.

I'll shoot you if you mess with my tissues.

She looks like me. Of course I had to!

Just like I have to have this San Diego Con exclusive 12″ Baroness. :D

Quickie!

My life is so boring right now:

  • I start at SCSU on Monday. I’m just now getting anxious about it. I still have to go get my books and a backpack (so I don’t have to carry anything). I’m a little nervous about driving back and forth there by myself. It’s all so unfamiliar and weird. I know I’m being silly and will get used to everything really quickly. I usually thrive on big changes like this. So.
  • I just updated and submitted my resume. I’m hoping to get a full-time web design job with one of the big web design firms in my area so that I can get my own place.
  • I started a website for a really big local restaurant at work today. I really like the design mockup I made this afternoon. I honestly didn’t want to go home, and for the longest time after I got home I just sat and daydreamed about finishing this site. I’m such a nerd. Heh.
  • I’ve been using Facebook a lot more lately, and only because I’ve been using it for work. I actually like it now. So if you have one, add me!
  • I want to start building and decorating dollhouse kits. I know it’s so childish, but I think they’re really pretty. Target has them on their website, and so does Toys R Us. I think it’d be a fun hobby to get in touch with my inner child with. Don’t judge me. :P
  • I really need to start writing daily — and I don’t just mean blogging. I need to start writing at least a chapter a day and finish my novel.
  • I’ve been trying to take better care of myself. I’ve officially quit smoking, have been organizing different appointments with doctors, dentists, and staying on top of my chronic pain. Now I need to go get a haircut. I badly need a trim, and I’m not just saying that to make excuses to pamper myself. My hair is really dried out and I have a lot of split ends. :(

This is by far my most boring update, so I’ll understand if you unsubscribe from my feed. ;)
